Bolts Baseball
Middleboro Bolts who had a surprising 3-0 start to the Cranberry League season
has been a season of streaks.  The Bolts won their first 3 lost their next 4 then
when on an 8 game winning streak followed by a 2 game losing streak and
currently on a 2 game winning streak.  The Bolts have surprised a lot of people
in and around the league with their season thus far.  The Bolts sit at 2nd place
with a 12-6 3 games back from 1st place Braintree White Sox.  The Bolts have
lost 3 1 run games in the last inning versus the White Sox this season.  The
Bolts hold a 1 ½ game lead over 3rd place Rockland Cardinals with 6 games
remaining.  The Bolts are looking to hold on to play for the Cranberry League
championship on July 17th.

    Bolts Manager Tony DeSilva was asked prior to the start of the season what
could he expect from this season’s edition of the Bolts, his response “Time will
tell.”  He went onto to explain losing his top 3 pitchers Jason Perry (playing for
Easton this year), and both Frank Vlacha and Corey Batista (injuries) to top that
losing 1 of his better hitters Casey Askeland (playing for Weymouth Phillies this
year) will be extremely tough to recover from that from the starting gate.

    Well the time has been told with a week in a half remaining in the season the
Bolts are currently 2nd in team hitting and pitching with a team batting average
of .290 and team ERA 1.36.  The Bolts have players represented in the league
leaders in most categories.  The Bolts have 4 hitters in the top 10 in hitting as
well as most hitting categories. The Bolts are well rounded on the pitching end
as well as they have 5 pitchers with 2 wins and 3 different pitchers with a save.  
The Bolts lead the league in steals.

The Bolts have six games remaining and have a tough road ahead to hold onto
the 2nd place position.  The schedule looks like this July 5th versus Brockton at
Edgars Playground at 6pm in Brockton, July 7th at Frothingham Park in Easton
at 6pm, July 8th versus South Shore Warriors at Memorial Park in Hanson at
6pm July 9th at Carver High School versus Plymouth Pirates July 10th versus
Canton at Canton HS at 11am and the Bolts last home game versus South Shore
Warriors at 6pm at Middleboro High School.

The Bolts 2011 roster is dotted with local talent.  Andy Cherico (Dighton), Blake
Youngblood and Rob Rushton (East Freetown)  Dan Depippo (Assonet) Brendan
Cordeiro (Berkley) Marcus Perry (Taunton) Kyle Silva (Fall River) Chad Houghton
and Ray Tallent (Plymouth) Tyler Genereux (Duxbury) Brendan Pittsley
(Plympton) Zach Smith (Halifax) Brandon and Logan Sullo (Acushnet) The towns
of Bridgewater and Wareham have the most represented with 4 each
Bridgewater is represented by Nick Campbell, Kyle St Thomas, Dan and Tim
Belanger.  Wareham has Quirino DoCanto, Cody Berger, Ryan Delgado and
Jonathan Capachione.  Hometown Middleboro is represented Brett Holmgren,
Nick Bean and Sean Newcombe.  The team is coached by Tony DeSilva and Ron
Holmgren.

The Bolts are combining with Post 64 Legion Baseball team to do a Comedy
Show fundraiser on July 23rd at Middleboro Elks at 8pm.  Tickets can be
purchased  from any Post 64 or Bolts players as well as contacting Tony DeSilva
at 508-971-0808.  Tickets are $15.  The 3 comedians will be Trip Moran Jason
Campbell and Ben Small.
